Stockton in the 1940's

The forties began with an anxiety felt throughout the world. This anxiety was a residual effect of the previous decade, overwhelmed with America's Great Depression and the world's economic downturn, as well as events occurring in the latter part of the 1930s and spilling into the new decade.

Health Careers Academy

The students at Health Careers Academy wear scrubs to school, attend anatomy classes in repurposed hospital exam rooms, and chat with visiting physicians and hospital administrators. All in all, it looks like you'd expect a medical school to look--but the students at HCA are only in ninth and tenth grade.

Understanding Autism

Twenty years ago, autism was hardly talked about. For many, their first exposure to it was watching Rainman or that ridiculous Bruce Willis movie Mercury Rising. Now, though, everyone knows someone diagnosed with autism and the statistics point toward this trend increasing -- current estimates suggest that 1 in 88 children 8 years old or younger will be diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

San Joaquin 911

When you're the victim of a medical emergency, there is nothing scarier. You're in pain, afraid and lonelier than you've ever felt before in your whole life. You need help. So you call 911.And with that call begins a beautifully choreographed chain of events designed to get you away from that place of fear and to the help you need.

Gracefully Aging Eyes

One day, you're going to have to admit it. You can't see what that street sign up ahead says, the print in that book isn't so easy to read anymore. It may even be hard for you to read this article. You're going to have to admit that your eyes are aging...and not aging well.

Vino Culture

Sorelle, which translates to sisters in Italian, is a boutique family-owned winery located in Stockton, offering customers a wide selection of vino and even more beautiful landscapes to enjoy.

Rancho La Puerta

"Who brought the flan?" is first of many questions I find myself asking about spa cuisine so sumptuous it has no business being lacto- ovo vegetarian, glutenfree or good. Everything on a plate presented during a reviving week at Rancho La Puerta Fitness Resort & Spa (rancholapuerta.com), a restorative refuge outside Tecate in Baja California, Mexico, follows suit. Cinnamon rolls, cookies, pizza-if I wasn't a stone's throw from San Diego, I'd swear it was heaven.
